Episode 4 Script: The The Groom Beneath the Ground. The Necklace
Episode 4: The Necklace
The Groom Beneath the Ground.
By Grace Antiedu
Eliza stopped sleeping.
She tried salt. Holy water. Prayers whispered with trembling lips. But the necklace always returned around her neck each dawn, warm like skin, pulsing faintly, like a second heartbeat.
Then came the dreams.
She stood in a forest with no wind, no sky. Just silence.
A figure waited at the edge of a grave dug for two.
He wore black robes soaked in soil, and his face was no longer hidden. Worms crawled through empty eye sockets. His smile was broken -jagged teeth, too many of them, too wide. In his hand was a ring made of bone.
“You are mine,” he rasped. “You were promised”.
Eliza woke with dirt under her fingernails.
The aunt, shaking now, confessed everything.
“The necklace belonged to Nchindeh,” she said, voice cracking.
“He was a suitor who died on his wedding day, killed by your great-grandmother for practicing dark arts. His spirit made a vow: if he could not marry in life, he would marry in death.”
Each daughter born of the bloodline became his bride. Bound by the necklace. Taken, one by one.
Unless the pact was broken.
There was only one way.
Bury the necklace -deep, under sacred ground -and never look back.
Eliza didn’t hesitate. She wrapped it in linen soaked in holy oil and ran.
She buried it at dawn, behind the oldest church in the region, whispering her freedom with each fistful of soil.
That night, the mirror cracked on its own. The house grew cold. And in her dreams, Eliza saw him one last time -screaming as the earth swallowed him.
The curse was broken.
But the warning remained.
Never take what was meant to stay buried.
Never wear what carries someone else’s promise.
Never love what the dead still claim.
